Published: 20 November 2014

Professor Rob Eason from the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton has been elected to the Board of Stakeholders for Photonics 21.

Photonics 21 is the European Technology Platform, which represents the photonics community within industry and research organisations and develops the European photonics strategy for future research and innovation in Europe.

The Board of Stakeholders is the main decision-making body of the platform, and bears the responsibility for formulating key areas of research and innovation which will form the basis for future funding calls in the photonics area.

Professor Eason said: “I am very excited about this role as it provides an excellent opportunity to represent the UK in its involvement with the broader European photonics community in the areas of research, education, development and manufacturing.â€?

There are 97 members on the Board of Stakeholders, with 10 from the UK, but Professor Eason is the only UK member of this Board from within the University sector.
