ORC students to attend prestigious international summit
PhD students, Bruce Ou and Milos Nedeljkovic from the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton, have been selected to attend the prestigious Global Young Scientist Summit organised by the Singapore National Research Foundation.
Bruce and Milos are among five students selected from across the University to attend the conference.
âWeâre proud to have them representing the Optoelectronics Research Centre, and to have their work recognised by this selectionâ? said Goran Mashanovich, Milosâ supervisor.
Milos said: "I'm greatly looking forward to learning from such eminent scientists from a wide array of fields, and I'm excited to have the chance to visit some of Singapore's world class research centres."
Bruce added: âIt is my great honour to attend this world class summit and I am grateful to my supervisor Professor Nikolay Zheludev for nominating me.â?
The Global Young Scientist Summit is a gathering of young researchers (primarily PhD students and post-docs) from all over the world, with internationally eminent science and technology leaders (âspeakersâ) in Singapore.
Taking place on the 19th-24th January 2014, the multi-disciplinary summit will discuss the latest advances in science and technology â specifically; chemistry, physics and medicine to mathematics, computer science and engineering, and how research may be harnessed to address major global challenges.
Invited speakers are globally recognised scientific leaders, who are recipients of awards such as; the Fields Medal, Millennium Technology Prize, Nobel Prize, and Turing Award.
