ORC FAST lab re-opens its doors
The ORCâs Femtosecond Applications of Science and Technology (FAST) lab is back up and running following the completion of a £300K upgrade.
The multi user facility used for a variety of ultrafast experiments has undergone a major transformation over the last few months to upgrade and refine the existing equipment and infrastructure.
The improved FAST lab will provide multi-use operation allowing up to three simultaneous experiments making the facility more readily available to researchers.
The lab has been split into 3 sections containing new and upgraded equipment including: 14 different lasers; terahertz system, stages and optics; optics for dedicated ps/fs pump-probe work-station; modular confocal microscope setup; and dedicated UV nanomachiner, stages and optics.
The facility has been hugely successful since it opened in 2004. In excess of 100 papers published as a result of work carried out in the lab. It is hoped that the improvements will help to ensure the competitive edge and continued growth of the ORC research output for the next 5 years.
Applications are now being taken for the next 3 months, if you would like to use the facility please contact the new FAST lab manager Dmytro Kundys email: dmk@orc.soton.ac.uk or phone: 023 8059 4531 or contact Dr Bill Brocklesby email: wsb@orc.soton.ac.uk or phone: 023 8059 2042
