Southampton and Cambridge celebrate Portfolio success.
The Universities of Southampton and Cambridge held a symposium recently in celebration a 5 year EPSRC Portfolio partnership in NanoPhotonics coming to an end and the subsequent transition to multi-million pound programme grants in Southampton and Cambridge.
The symposium featured overview talks by Portfolio Principle Investigator, Deputy Director, Optoelectronics Research Centre, Professor Nikolay Zheludev and Portfolio Co-Investigator Professor Jeremy Baumberg, University of Cambridge. They gave an overview of the research carried out by their teams, their achievements and the future research directions at both institutions. This was followed by oral presentations from key research staff in Southampton and Cambridge and a strong poster session where more than 50 posters were presented. More than 70 people attended the symposium and many of them went on the tour to see the new ORC facilities in the Mountbatten complex.
Key discoveries were highlighted by further presentations from both groups and a poster session illustrated the success of the £3.9M funded research portfolio.
Following the conclusion of the Portfolio partnership the groups from Southampton and Cambridge have both secured multi-million pound programme grants from the EPSRC. Southampton will be working on a £6M Programme grant researching Nanostructured Photonic Metamaterials and Cambridge research Soft NanoPhotonics under their £4M programme grant.
More information about the research can be found on the Portfolio Partnership website.
