Five new ORC Advanced Fellows announced
The Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) is thrilled to announce the appointment of five ORC Advanced Fellows, marking a groundbreaking moment in the career pathways of these senior research fellows.

This transformative initiative is set to redefine opportunities for academic progression, enabling the ORC Advanced Fellows to focus on their passion for research, realise their research ideas, and grow their own research teams The new ORC Fellowships provide permanent Level 5 appointments on a research-focused pathway.
This exclusive opportunity was open to Level 4 and Level 5 researchers who demonstrated readiness to take on this new role and met rigorous eligibility criteria. Applicants faced a competitive process, with the expectation of securing funding to cover at least 60% of their time within three years.
Support and Mentorship
The ORC is committed to supporting its fellows every step of the way. Successful candidates will be paired with a dedicated mentor during their first year, ensuring guidance and encouragement as they settle into their roles.
An annual review process will track progress, focusing on key performance areas including:
- Grant applications and successes
- Independence from previous supervisors or line managers
- Publication records and their impact
- Contributions to leadership, management, and engagement
- Any other relevant achievements.
