Professor Rob Eason receives Vice-Chancellorâs Teaching Award
The ORCâs Professor Rob Eason has been awarded a 2007 Vice-Chancellorâs Teaching Award in recognition of his dedication to innovation and quality in the field of learning and teaching. David Payne, Director of the ORC, presented Rob with his award at the ORCâs Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday 25 July 2007.
Although the ORC is a âresearch onlyâ centre, and hence does not teach any undergraduate students itself, ORC staff are actively involved in teaching within the associated schools of Physics and Electronics & Computer Science. Rob has taught within Physics for almost 20 years, and has received consistently high ratings in student feedback questionnaires. His style of teaching is extremely well received and he has been involved in many areas of learning and teaching, quality reviews and enhancement, and Faculty Teaching committees.
Since the ORC achieved School status in 2003, Rob has been chair of the Graduate School Board, which oversees all postgraduate research matters, from recruitment to graduation, and was made Deputy Head of School (Education) in 2006. He also teaches on the ORC postgraduate lecture programme and this year scored a 5/5 rating from the class of 23 postgraduate students.
The Teaching Award Scheme was set up in 2005 to raise the profile of teaching and learning across the University, and to reward and recognise excellence in quality and innovation. Nominations were made by colleagues and students and the winners are selected against University-wide criteria.
